The annual Clevedon Marine Lake Festival is taking place on September 17 to 19 and organisers are urging local residents and businesses to get involved.

The Festival, run by non-profit organisation MARLENS, takes place every year and offers something for the whole family. It also provides the perfect opportunity for the community to enjoy the lake and celebrate its existence.

The festival has grown in popularity, leading to organisers needing more stallholders to entertain the crowds. Joe Norman, chair of MARLENS said: “We are looking for anybody who has a stall or attraction and wants to be included at the event. This can be anything from a Coconut Shy to a rollercoaster!

“This will be the sixth Marine Lake Festival and it is expected to be the best yet; we already have some great things lined up such as a climbing wall, a novelty bath race, a dog show and a vintage car exhibition, but we want more!”

The Festival aims to get families active so the day will also feature a family ‘It’s a Knockout’ tournament, a truck pulling competition and a tug-of-war. The North Somerset Athletics Academy will be leading athletics events and exotic and Latin dance teachers will be holding dance classes.

On the water visitors will be encouraged to drive radio-controlled model boats, walk on water (zorbing) and have a go at sailing and canoeing.

A wide range of music will be performed, starting on Friday evening and continuing on Saturday and Sunday. The music Festival has a great line-up of local musicians but there is still the possibility to squeeze in one or two more. Anyone wishing to take part should contact Mike Britton via marlenssoundstage@googlemail.com

Joe continued: ”The music festival is always a favourite with visitors; it adds a great atmosphere to the weekend and offers local talent a platform to be noticed.”

The marine lake was built in the 1930’s as a major leisure facility for Clevedon and continues to be a wonderful asset and historic focus for the local community, as well as being in regular use for teaching sailing and canoe skills to local youngsters.
