PORTISHEAD is continuing to buck the recession trend with another new High Street store opening in the New Year.

Specsavers will be opening its doors in the former Tudball's Opticians at town's precinct on January 18.

The store will be managed and run by David and Emma Perrigo and Nic Johns and will create six new jobs.

All three store directors are familiar faces to Specsavers as they also run the stores in Nailsea and Clevedon.

Mr Perrigo is a qualified optometrist and will carry out eye examinations with Becky Girling, a graduate optician who is from Portishead, while Mrs Perrigo and Mr Johns will look after the day-to-day running of the store.

Mr Perrigo said: 'We hope our customers continue to see us as the eyecare equivalent of their friendly local GP, providing them with a familiar and professional service.

"We have two testing rooms, the latest pre-testing equipment and a contact lens area as well as a huge variety of frames on display.

"Our aim is to provide the same professional service as we do in Clevedon and Nailsea and we are proud to offer the people of Portishead the very best in optical care."

A launch party will be held in January to officially open the store, which local residents will be invited to attend.

The store will be open weekdays from 9am - 5.30pm, and 9pm - 5pm on Saturdays.
