PENSIONERS across Portishead and Pill are being invited along to the annual Senior Citizens Supper.

The event is organised each year by Portishead’s Safer, Stronger Neighbourhood policing team and will take place at the Somerset Hall on the new date of January 13th 2010

Last year more than 200 pensioners from across Portishead and Pill enjoyed a three course meal and entertainment.

Funds for this year’s event have come from the Avon and Somerset police Asset Recovery Fund, Capita Symonds and a donation from Portishead Carnival committee.

Police officers cook the meal and a team of students from Gordano School help out for the night and work as waiters and waitresses.

Volunteer drivers from community organisations across Portishead collect and drop off the pensioners to the dinner.

A special coach is also organised to take pensioners from Pill to the dinner.

Youngsters from the Cheryl Rowlands School of Drama will be entertaining the crowds along with Portishead Community Choir.

This year the event will be opened by celebrity guests – whose identity is to remain secret until the night.

The event is free to all pensioners who are now being invited to get in touch and secure their place at the dinner table.

Portishead Police Community Support Officer, Debbie Charman, who is co-ordinating the event again this year, said: “We are inviting elderly people from across Portishead and Pill, particularly those who aren’t able to get out and about much, to join us for a fun evening of food and entertainment.

“We are also asking people who may have an elderly neighbour or friend who they think may benefit from coming along to the event.

“It’s a fun evening with great food and entertainment and offers elderly people a chance to socialise and get to meet new people.”

Anyone who wants to attend the supper or wants to nominate an elderly person should either pop into Portishead Police Station or ring Debbie on 0845 4567000.
