NORTH Somerset's Labour party has chosen Steven Parry-Hearn to stand against Woodspring's Conservative MP Dr Liam Fox in the next election.
Mr Parry-Hearn, 41, has pledged to work hard for the people of the district if elected.
Born in Swansea, he now lives with his wife Anna and three children in the Forest of Dean.
He works in North Somerset, for the Shaw Trust, and, with a passion for social justice, is also member of a number of foundations.
He has worked with South Wales Police to tackle antisocial behaviour and was a founder member of a community foundation in Glamorgan, which was used as the police model for the widespread PACT (Partners and Communities Together) initiative.
One of the issues Steven has already begun work on in North Somerset is National Grid's plans to install a huge power line through North Somerset.
He has written to the energy company to show his objections to the plans.
He said: "I am aware that Nailsea and its surrounding villages are in the forefront of the 'anti-pylon campaign' to stop a link from Avonmouth to Bridgwater being bulldozed through its countryside.
"I look forward to campaigning in the coming election and promise, if elected, to work hard for all the people of North Somerset."
