McDONALD’S in Portishead could double in size if plans for a £400,000 investment get the go-ahead.

Franchisee Tim Lamb has applied for planning permission to completely refurbish the restaurant, which he took over in December last year. Granting of the application would see the Wyndham Way retail park McDonald’s benefit from an extension at the front of the restaurant, which is currently a seating area, and double from 59 to 115 covers.

It would also be completely refurbished with new furniture, moving away from the old red and yellow colours, to a more modern green. Around 20 jobs would be created.

Mr Lamb, 43, said: “The new restaurant will have communal seating, and generally be more modern. It will be more like a coffee place than a fast food restaurant.

“We are upgrading our drive-through mechanics to speed up the process. There will be an intercom and TV display for customers to speed up ordering.”
