A SPONSOR is being sought for an annual award given to people or organisations in Portishead who have gone the extra mile to help the community.
Each year the town's Portishead in Bloom committee awards the John Daws Cup to recognise those who have done their bit to make the town a better place.
The annual competition is open to those that members of the public feel has made a lasting impression on the town, either through a single good deed or perhaps an on going commitment.
Committee members are now looking for a local business to sponsor the award at a cost of £100.
The money will be handed over, along with the special cup, to the winner.
Past winners include John and Edwina Tovey for their outstanding contribution to Portishead Horticultural Society and the town's annual flower show, Portishead Christmas Lights Committee, which for the past 23 years has ensured the town lights up during the festive season and carnival organisers Wendy Watkins and Jemma Cooper.
The special award was launched in 2006 in memory of the late John Daws who was a former chairman of the town council and one of the founders of Portishead in Bloom.
Nominations, as well as a sponsor, are now being sought.
Anyone who wants to nominate a person or individual or sponsor the award should contact Sandy Tebbutt on 01275 843566, write to her at 45 Nore Road, Portishead, BS20 6JY or email sandy.tebbutt@hotmail.com.
