PEOPLE are being invited to vote for the best bobby on the beat in the annual Avon and Somerset's Community Policing Awards.

The competition asks the public to nominate police officers, staff and teams that go the extra mile for the communities they serve.

People can nominate:

• Neighbourhood Beat Manager of the Year

• PCSO of the Year

• Special Constable of the Year

• Neighbourhood Team of the Year

• Outstanding Customer Service Award

The closing date is Tuesday, November 30 and you can nominate on-line at www.communitypolicingawards.org.uk or pick up a form from any police station.

Avon and Somerset Police Authority Chair Dr Peter Heffer said: "There are plenty of people within the Constabulary that deserve one of these awards and I hope that as many people as possible complete a nomination so the best people are in with a chance of winning."

Assistant Chief Constable John Long said: "We are looking to give recognition to those who continually work hard to make our communities stronger and safer and work with our partner agencies to tackle the things that really matter to you."

The winners from the six policing district of Somerset West, East, North Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset will be announced in January.

An awards ceremony will be held to announce the overall winners of each category in March, at Cadbury House Hotel, Congresbury.
