VOLUNTEERS are being sought to act as buddies to people signing up to a new sporting scheme in North Somerset.

The Go4Life initiative is looking for volunteers to support people in getting active through free schemes such as health walks.

The appeal comes after it was revealed that there are people in the district who would benefit from a Get Active Buddy to help them improve their fitness because they lack confidence  to exercise alone.

Anyone can become a buddy once they have been CRB-checked by North Somerset Council and reference-checked.

All people need to become a buddy is a desire to take part in physical activity and a willingness to share it with others.

All you need is a desire to take part in physical activity and the willingness to share that experience with others.

A council spokesman said: “A Get Active Buddy's role is to give individual attention, encouragement and to improve the confidence levels of the individuals they support.  “There is no need for in-depth sports knowledge or to be experienced in the chosen activity.”

The minimum commitment to be a buddy is to take part in 16 support sessions of approximately one hour each.
