I have heard people in Portishead say that the new contractors running the recycling centre in the town are somewhat overzealous. Is this right? Do we now have waste police on our doorstep? So far I have found the staff at Backwell tip brilliant and very, very helpful. It was mentioned at Portishead Town Council that the staff up the tip were perhaps being a bit too efficient when sorting different waste and when questioning people about what was in their binliners. I have also heard some people were turned away on the basis they were bring trade waste when infact it was local residents bringing rubbish from their own homes as a result of some DIY projects. I know that a number of homes have also been missed out of collection routes in Portishead. What is everyone's view on the new waste contract?

You've got my vote on this one Major Al, I'll be keeping several moist tampax mixed in amongst mine, so the rubbish police can really enjoy themselves.

I don't like global warming or drought in Africa but personally I'm not prepared to recycle nor have someone open my bin liner and sort my rubbish into separate lots for recycling.

I have been asked for I.D when i went in my van to drop off my rubbish, but i think that is acceptable.
There is a magpie element there, when you throw your rubbish in the skips, as soon as you have turned your back, someone that works there is sifting through it, but someone rubbish is another’s gold!

I agree with both comments, do we need to celebrate the lake grounds are 100 years old, i have live here all my life, and it has hardly changed since we were allowed to go down there on the weekend, and enjoy ourselves. (I am well into my 50's) Now if you talk too loud the local constabulary are called. I think Portishead has lost its direction!
