Portishead west and north new rubbish collection regime

THE second phase of a new recycling and rubbish collection regime across North Somerset gets underway next week.

People living in the north and west areas of Portishead will see their new bins starting to be delivered from next week.

New collection services, introduced as part of North Somerset Council's recycling revolution, started earlier this month.

Due to the large number of properties in the district, the council is introducing its new services in two stages.

People living in stage one areas have now moved across to the new services, allowing them to recycle a much wider range of materials, including food, plastics, cartons and all types of cardboard, each and every week.

New bins and containers will start being delivered across the remainder of North Somerset from next Monday (August 2).

Over the following five weeks an extra recycling box, food waste container and a wheeled bin or plastic sacks for non-recycling rubbish will be delivered to the remaining households in North Somerset ready for their new and improved services to begin from mid-September.

An information pack and collection calendar will be delivered with the new containers to let people know what materials go in each one and the exact date that their new collections will begin.

Changes for people living in blocks of flats of four or more households will be introduced separately this autumn.

North Somerset Council executive member for environment, Councillor Carl Francis-Pester, said: " "We've had a fantastic response to the first stage of our service roll-out with large amounts of recycling presented on all routes.

"Now we can make a start on the deliveries of new containers to the rest of the district, ready for the next round of services to go live from mid-September."

Households in areas including Banwell, southern Clevedon, Flax Bourton, north and west Portishead and Barrow Gurneyare in stage two, and will receive their new containers in August or early September ready for their new services beginning from mid-September.

Residents are advised not to use their new food waste containers and wheeled bins before their first collection because they will not be emptied.

Additional materials, such as plastics and cartons, also won't be collected until the new recycling service starts. 

As part of the changes, recycling and food collections will take place each week and green garden waste will be collected every fortnight.

Non recyclable rubbish will also be collected weekly.

Those properties without room for a wheeled bin will receive a limited supply of plastic sacks every six months instead.
