Tributes flood in for Portishead accident victim Gaz Hedges

FLORAL tributes have been laid at the spot where Portishead teenager, named locally as Gaz Hedges, died.

Mr Hedges, 19, died following a collision with a Skoda Fabia in Nore Road at around 1.30am on Thursday.

He was taken to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol with serious head injuries, but died later the same morning.

Floral tributes have been laid at the accident spot by family and friends.

One says: “You are truly one of life’s nice guys who is already sorely missed, not only by family, but also friends.”

Tributes were also posted on Mr Hedges Facebook page, shortly after news of his death emerged, by friends devastated at the news.

The teenager, who worked as a postman, has been described as 'a genuinely nice lad whom everyone liked.'

Friend Dan Fowler posted: "RIP Gaz mate. Well and truly shocked. Props nor ramshackle won't be the same without you."

Another friend posted: RIP Gaz. No one can deny you were and always will be a legend. Thinking of you.'

In a moving tribute, friend Ben Davis, posted: "Today we've found out about the loss of one of life's smilers. Smile for Gaz - RIP x."

Friend CJ Buchanan posted: "Gaz Hedges the true gentleman and legend RIP."

A Facebook page has been set up called Dedication to the Legendary Gareth Hedges.

It says: “He was an extremely outgoing, lovely person who always thought of others.”

Police signs appealing for information have now gone up at the spot where Mr Hedges, a former Gordano School student, died.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have seen the man in the Nore Road area beforehand.
