A DRAMATIC police chase took place today through Portishead.

Two men driving a stolen car were arrested following the chase from the A369 to the town centre.

Police started following the car, thought to be stolen, after it was flagged up on force's automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system by the Portishead motorway roundabout.

Several police units, including unmarked cars, followed the vehicle - which was believed to be stolen -  along the Portbury Hundreds and Wyndham Way into the town centre.

The police helicopter was also launched to help track the car as it made its way through the town.

The car was abandoned in The Downs at around 11.10am.

One man was arrested in The Downs and a second man arrested in a neighbouring street The Rowans.

A 19 year-old man from Bristol and a 17-year-old man from Clevedon were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
