I can't wait for the switch on of the lights. I went last year and it was amazing. The atmosphere in Portishead is always incredible on this night and the lights look fantastic. Massive thanks should go to the volunteers which spend hours putting this display together. I agree they are the best illuminations in the whole of North Somerset. Roll on the Victorian evening as well. Me and the kids love going to that and it brings the whole out in the run up to Christmas.
Well done Portishead. Our town leads where other follows!
Only one contender this year for switching the Christmas Lights on
Imogen Cairns , who has performed brilliantly in this years Commonwealth Games. i Gold and 1 Silver so far in the Gymnastic competition.. This has been achieved when just 15 months ago she could hardly walk through a serious injury.

What a shame that someone who actually has lived in Portishead for many yeras and has become a local but overlooked legend can't be gievn the honour of turning the lights on rather than someone who has only recently adopted the town and will probably leave as swiftly as she arrived. I notice there is a campaign on Facebook to get Ted Dwyer to turn the lights on and if anyone deserves such a thank you for his amazing sense of humour and his local popularity amongst old locals of the town then this man has to be it. Fly by night celebrity's and sports people are starting to become so commonplace it's good to see that the town retains a few good old down to earth quality characters.
As for fabmaof5 regarding Imogen as showing how amazing young people in Portishead are, all credit to Imogen for her acheivements but she was neither born or brought up in the town and only very very recently moved here and no doubt will soon move on again.
