What does everyone think of the plans to open a Lidl store and 60 bedroom Travelodge in Portishead?

Perhaps we should have a supermarket on every street corner. That would cut down on the need to use a car to get there. Oh, that's what we used to have in the 'old days' and we called them shops. They were much smaller, friendlier and gave a personal service. Do you supermarket shoppers know we still have some locally owned independant shops in our High Street. That is what makes Portishead an individual town with character! That might even be one of the reasons you moved here. But if you don't start supporting them more they will disappear and then you will want to move away to a small country town which has character. No I am not anti supermarket but lets get everything in proportion. We already have 5 supermarkets in the town. Get out your cars, give the children a walk and let them learn about being part of a community in its entirety.

ReportGreat, but perhaps Redcliff wants a school and store ? and we are short of accommodation all the way through since 1950, so that is 60 years behind schedule, although Bear Inn does offer some, there seems to be a demand. If you use a Premier, do not eat in the next door motorway services unless you like Bacon cheese croissant, the one at Stirling I walked out of and had breakfast later, even if Lenny gets a decent sleeping price and Travel Lodge also can have their difficulties, can we have a Holiday Inn instead ? So with the late schools (1993) (1977) and general policy of wait until it falls down alike Haiti, do we yet see a Sainsbury and a rail station ? Or even a Library would be nice. I spent ten years teaching Planning and planning related work, concluded 15 years was too long to await water supply reservoir plans and gave up listening to the students and lawyers involved in 1979.

ReportMind you we could wait for Tesco ! to surrender the site to Clist and Rattle to help their garage work and local employment, fuel supplies, or is that also too late ? ! Price jacking up of land, they jacked up Gloucester by-pass land by simply putting in a ramp and the soils went up on the alluvium and then we all end up in costs and inflation.
