What does everyone think about the decision to change the name of the town council. It is going to be just Portishead Town Council, not Portishead and North Weston Town Council from next year.

ReportI'm just glad I was asked about this before the decision was finalised and not simply told afterwards. After all, "I'm the new Portishead and North Weston Town Mayor" starts to become a bit of a mouthful after you've said it a couple of dozen times, whereas "I'm the new Portishead Mayor" simply glides off the tongue. But if it really is such a simple procedure to upgrade from Councillor to town Mayor, it just degrades the true status of the position itself.
Couldn't agree more, but in all fairness at least we need a town mayor more than the traffic warden people have asked for for years, a position that would actually pay for itself. Wheras a Mayor would then need a deputy mayor and within a few years whomever holds the positions would then try to convince us all that they held such great responsibility in the role they would then need renumeration to cover the great sacrifices thay have made. One farcical decison chases another, wonder what will be next, a town mascot (no doubt Mrs Knights dog is already being lined up for the part).

The name change was discussed a few years ago and North Weston people made it clear that they wished their historic identity confirmed. What do we get out of a change, bills for fresh stationary and website work? A pointless exercise.
If Councillors want to take fancy titles , let them do so, very few will be fooled into thinking that the community is better off if we no longer have a chairman

Well just who is going to council north weston, or has ther recovery been so much better than portishead that they no longer need any coucilling?.
Whey is portishead so far behind that they still need councilling when north weston does'nt, i think the curren councillors should be open and explain why this is the case, they should be able to explain why this has come about, just why north weston's position is that much better

I've obviously been looking at this all wrong, It's all starting to make perfect sense, if North Weston manages to retain its own unique historical identity, it might also want its own Mayor.
That's definitely going to sour things for Portishead isn't it?
But once North Weston has been swallowed up by the Power hungry force that is manifesting itself under our very noses, no more problems.
This must be nipped in the bud right now, otherwise everyone will want their own Mayor, and we all know that takes less time to achieve than it does for a pensioner to cross the cabstand junction these days.
