You may not be aware, but North Somerset Council are currently reviewing new road markings and waiting restrictions (yellow lines to you and me) across our district in 2011-12, for implementation in 2012-13. This is a rare opportunity to introduce such restrictions for the benefit of the considerate road using majority.
The outgoing Town Council with the support of the local Police recommended Harbour Road for consideration. Perversely the new Town Council has decided to stick its head in the sand over the traffic nightmare that is Harbour Road, and is actively against introducing waiting restrictions. The Councillors must not need to use Harbour Road or like me avoid it as an unviable route for road travel between Quays Avenue and Station Road.
If you believe that Harbour Road or a street near you, perhaps in Port Marine, needs waiting restrictions, to improve safety or traffic flow, then put it in writing, including full details and reasons for your request, to Streets and Open Spaces at North Somerset District Council (Email: streetsandopenspaces@n-somerset.gov.uk or Address: Streets and Open Spaces, North Somerset Council, Weston Court, Oldmixon Crescent, Weston-super-Mare BS24 9AU).
The last thing we need is a repeat of the fight to have the Cabstand traffic lights put right.
For the record, Yatton Parish Council is willing to pay North Somerset Council £3,000 to speed up the process of trying to get waiting restrictions implemented in their village.
