Every Restaurant has it's signature dish, every city has it's Cathedrial sadly portishead has lacked a landmawark building especially a character pub. The black Horse is as close as you get.

Inflated prices and rents ad to the problem. Lets hope that Enterprise Inns don't land the Town with a couple of theme Pubs when they re-open-if in fact they do re-open. Lets wait and see but don't hold your breath.
