Having just read that the plans for a childcare nursery at the Lakegrounds have been refused, it does make me wonder if certain councillors have other agendas rather than the wider community's interests at heart.
I tire of reading the name David Pasley in the local press as, not only is it usually because he is opposing something but generally he is opposing it because it is on the doorstep of his own home and whereas he has been happy to witness the total upheaval for the rest of the town with its recent vast expansion, he does not want it within his own home area.
I was under the impression that council members had to have no say in matters that they had a personal interest in so am baffled that he is involved in so many planning refusals when they obviously are of interest to him.
Portishead needs nursery spaces, the Lake Grounds is a perfect environment, I was there this morning and thought what a beautiful area for children to be lucky to have nursery places in.
There is something very wrong and worrying about personal unprofessional agendas and they do need sorting or any faith in councillors decisons will disappear for ever.
I hope Councillor Pasley is happy that he has not only prevented amuch needed business opening in the town but also the employment prospects of many who would have worked there and all because he wants to protect his own living space from the sound of children and cars being parked in the biggest carpark in the town.

Could you please remind us of this come local election time, then perhaps the people of Portishead will be able to do something positive about this allegedly undesirable ongoing situation.

There used to be one there before the elderly persons residences and general decline, after that it began to wear out. I have not lived around the Lake Grounds for 41 years but it was collapsing with the Beach in 1979 so I would not worry too much there must be better sites where children live and where they might be safe during the day. It is hardly suitable for children, elderly people, nor sports people now and as built on slavery of captured PoWs (WWI, you know archaeologists digging up people's relatives in trenches) forced to work there, shoveling the muck to make the wall and lake more secure it has just deteriorated with the Council abandoning it as a public resource full of waste storm flush and establishing some on rubble heaps inland instead, including fishing off a dangerous pier and slouching about in a very dangerous dock with no child protection.
I expect we shall soon see some more Schools on waste tips built out of charity and private donations, the government law is attend school, but there is little provision made to meet regulations and that which occurs is five times too costly and 17 years too late from the date set. As one lady commented to me about Bournemouth I suppose it reduces the number of black people who can live here, so I guess she personally will be a happy old woman. She also did not like people with disability, I shut up, I do not like staring fights at the dentists where I was collecting my wife. I have very few black friends left now in Portishead, there used to be some, some of therm were Catholic and they got driven out too.
