On their site it looks like BT Infinity (fibre optic broadband) is now available in Portishead - sounds too good to be true!

Infinity is not available in all areas of Portishead - particularly those in the north and north eastern areas of the Village Quarter. Please register your interest at http://tinyurl.com/yengfbh
Done.
Strange, yesterday it said Infinity was available at my postcode and today it's not.

Keep trying some_bloke. It would be good to have all of Portishead Infinitied up!

Having moved from Burlington Rd where I did have BTInfinity, to the other side of the marina, where I don't I have been waiting and hoping for a further round of upgrades.
BS20ladz, how did you hear that more cabinets are being upgraded? BT's own info is limited, as once they enable part of the area they give no further info on how many or which cabinets are being upgraded.
At this stage, they've not said which cabinets will be enabled, its more a case of which cabinets haven't been. These are 10, 11, 15, 19, 20, 23, 28, 29, 31, 32, 33, and 34. I've tried to extract why not and all they say is that its a numbers game and the financial viability of enabling each cabinet is what comes first. Sadly for non-shareholding customers, it seems that they're more interested in numbers than in service. Information about which cabinets are being enabled is made available at the end of each quarter (next announcement at the end of March/early April) so keep an eye on the ADSL checker website http://tinyurl.com/6krav4v which claims that there are some cabinets that will be enabled by 31st March so again, keep an eye on it. Perhaps distribute some flyers in your vicinity and urge your neighbours to register their interest on the BT website.
Thanks, when I run the ADSL checker it gives no mention of FTTC or cabinets due for upgrade, so I guess its still not even being considered. :-(
My cabinet is near the junction between Pheonix Way and Newfoundland Way, and I can only hope that the ever increasing number of apartments being connected to it will eventually mean enough interest is generated to get it upgraded.
That's right, but don't forget that the nearest cabinet might not be feeding your home. Opposite sides of streets can be fed from different cabinets. The houses opposite us can get Infinity but we can't :-( In the northern part of the Village Quarter, the ratio of cabinets (three cabinets - 30, 31, 32 and 34) to homes is higher and I think this is the reason why three of the cabinets have not been enabled (ie because it costs to enable each cabinet). Cab 30 (The Finches) seems to serve more homes so no wonder its been enabled. Also, three cabinets along the High Street have been enabled yet properties in this area would have already had the fastest broadband speeds as they are closest to the exchange which is off the High Street.
