In April a decision will be made by the Town Council or whether we should call our Cahirman and Mayor.
Important:  This move will cost nothing, there will be no robes, not additional cost to Council
Why should we change.  The people I meet daily are very proud of our town, we all know that everything is not right but the is a tendency to highlight the problems and not some of the very good points about the town.  We are now the second largest town in NS and we need to elevate the position of the town.  This is not about elevating the person who holds the title but about giving this Town status - the holder will change yearly the town will retain the title forever.

Maybe dealing with the problems that do get highlighted so often should be at the top of the councils priority list. This town needs a traffic warden more than it needs a Mayor and it may seem a cycnical point of view but it does start to become rather transaparent that the person in line to become the first Mayor, should the council be so naive as to go down such an unnecessary, unasked for route, is also the person who will take up that position.
This is about personal ego and nothing more. Unnecessary, unasked for and self explanatory to the majority.

I see McCain just lost the American Election and this Portishead is not a German state Herr Major with a totalitarian control run by political infanticide practiced unofficially since 1979 in England from white and Asian South African ex-pats, some of whom fled to Australia and some landed from Hong Kong by breaking quarantine. So the Republicans will have to go and bury their swords back in their fields again as bad tempered as they may be, we are not inclined to war here this is Somerset, not a supreme battleground for Middle East politics revived since 1947 in a desert which started all the problem in 1979 1980. However much oil there may be for people to use so they can buy a sports car out of MPs expense funds leaking from tax payers' incomes. By the time Obama gets through most of the Republican Right will be in their graves or retired on the welfare payments rather alike the budding MPs of yesteryear in England who refuse disability care to old and invalid, salaries to appointed staff. We cannot go back to Dickens, the Mayor idea was put forward by Thatcherites to breach the Planning regulations so you could live forever encased in concrete and a vigilante committee could send you to prison for being in the street shopping. The Chancellor is planning to privatize student loan by selling to the highest bidder, probably Kraft ? hence your caring local political system ! running University and College into the ground since 1975 so you can take A'levels twice and then a lifetime of training programmes at "consultant" prices, while you are denied as qualified; alike 200 million lawyers telling us what we knew already about Northern Ireland in a country short of finance for schools , elderly, health, students, safe coal mines, decent car building, trains.
