It is now some months since the Cabstand lights were bagged over.
When and what action is going to be taken to make this relatively complex set of junctions comply with "normal" road signage and road priority marking standards?
Surely North Somerset Council can still afford some paint for lining a few "Give ways" and making the pedestrian crossings "0n demand", or are they planning to abdicate from all responsibility for this junction now that their original solution of traffics lights has been shown to be ineffective.
Wasn't there originally a roundabout there?
Maybe they should think of painting in one of those domed 'biscuit' roundabouts.
Maybe too they should move the crossing a little further down and have it pedestrian controlled (lights). The reason I would have it further down is to give the traffic a chance to get off the roundabout.

ReportI'm not sure we should expect the perpetrators of a bad road system to install a new system. The principle with the Cabstand trial is that without any direction from road signs people drive safer as opposed to when drivers are told to slow down or stop it automatically creates a boundary which can be crossed. Other places have removed all road markings, lights, railings and made the road indistinguishable from the pavement all of which reduces the speed of cars and reduces accidents and creates a natural priority for pedestrians. Rather than have NSC impose something else perhaps just removing all the lights and railings would be enough and cost very little? This is an old BBC article which explains the psychology behind this principle: tinyurl.com/7p565
