PEOPLE in Portishead will be paying less for services provided by the town council this year.

Portishead Town Council has set its precept for 2013/14 at £292.206 – a decrease of 3.91 per cent on last year. The precept is equivalent to £30.64 per year for a band D property.

Portishead has managed to reduce its council tax bills at the same time as other areas are having to increase theirs.

BarryW Sir, I see from this website you stated bizarrely, "Their game, their rules. If you do not like it play elsewhere. Or start your own site and take legal responsibility". Thanks heavens someone took you up on that because Posset Pie is very informative and ensures we all know just a little bit more about local politics. Have yet to find anyone wrongly accusing the council of anything. The additional paperwork in circulation is a fascinating read and has certainly opened my eyes to the workings of local government.

BarryW, you say 'when they are accused wrongly? I have read on here and elsewhere that when they were accused quite rightly of something a Cllr Barry Walters whom I assume to be you and your councillor colleague, rather than discuss matters maturely stormed out of a council meeting rather petulantly. Trumpeting acheivements is fine if you are also as keen to admit to your failings which seldon happens.
I think that the town council have reduced the precept for popularity reasons only as has been suggested elsewhere also.

When has Portishead Twon Council trumpeted anything?
Usually they are accused, wrongly, of keeping things too secret

The Town Council are always trumpeting reductions in their precept, but as it's only around £30 out of a total annual bill in excess of £1,400, that's 60p a week, it's not something to get excited about.
