POLICE are appealing for information after vandals damaged Portishead's new Tesco Express store - before it is even open.
Windows and a door at the former Royal Oak pub at West Hill were smashed in during the early hours of Thursday.
The retail giant is due to open its Express store at the pub in the coming weeks, but a date for the openign has yet to be confirmed.
Police are now looking through CCTV footage from cameras in the area.
Portishead police sergeant Jim Robinson said: "We are aware of the incident and it is being investigated.
"We would appeal to anyone with information about the incident to contact us."

Comments
This Tesco article which was posted on the afternoon of 19th February, after it had already appeared the previous week on BBC Points West, has today been "updated" with the only additional words being "Story updated by Prue_Reid, at 17:44 on 21/02/13". As the update contains no update (!) I can only assume its purpose is to escalate further down the page, comments from Portishead residents that may be deemed undesirable. Frustratingly, this "update" has been undertaken by that anonymous reporter!

ReportHaving seen this reported on the BBC Points West last week, I would have to agree with your sentiments Hillcran. Also whatever the rights and wrongs about the Tesco application, this kind of wanton damage does not help anyone's cause. Let's hope the town's young people do not get the blame.

ReportI remember the days when we could read local news within one or two days of it happening. Five days to inform the public that this has happened is five days when vital information could have been forgotten. Do we have a local paper that actually is up to date with local news as I have seen no mention of this in the Post and The Times is only weekly.
