POLICE are appealing for the public's help after opportunist burglars raided a luxury flat in Portishead.  And they have warned residents to be vigilant and report strangers.  The warning follows an incident in which intruders gained access to a secure entranced block of flats in Centre Quay, Lower Burlington Road between 11.30am-3.55pm on December 16.  They then forced their way into a flat and took various items, including a TV, lap top computer and baggage.  Police believe the intruders may have followed another vehicle into the secure car parking area and gained entry through a communal security door.  They have urged residents to be vigilant and report any strangers or intruders and to ensure that community doors to buildings are shut and secure and that no-one follows them in, unless they know them.  The two suspects are white,  slim and about 5ft 8ins tall and aged between 16-18. They are thought to have driven away in what is described as a possibly blue hatchback-style vehicle.  Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help their enquiries, particularly if they saw a vehicle matching the description.  Anyone able to help is asked to call Nailsea CID on the force non emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111

Maybe we need security cameras... or maybe neighbourhood watch. We had a burglary ourselves and I must say the police were so helpful. I think we do need to look out for each other and report anything that looks suspicious. Don't lets let these criminals think we are easy prey. Any of us could be targeted, you could be next.
