PORTISHEAD'S Open Air Pool has recorded its busiest week ever as temperatures rise up into the mid-eighties.
Volunteers at Portishead Pool Trust say this week has been the busiest since they took over the running of the lido in 2009.
Between Saturday (July 21) and Thursday (July 26) lunchtime, pool trustees say up to 3,000 people had visited the lido for a swim or to sunbathe on the terraces.
And with the weather expected to stay fair throughout the weekend, hundreds more are expected throughout the rest of the week.
By Thursday lunchtime, the pool was packed to capacity with 500 enjoying the good weather.
Volunteers have had to operate a busy day policy where a maximum of 120 people are allowed in the water for 20 minute sessions.
Queues have also formed outside the pool during the week with people wanting to take a dip to cool down and enjoy the sunshine.
Pool manager, Ann Hailwood, said: "With the weather being so fantastic, we have seen record numbers at the pool this week.
"This has been our busiest week since the trust took over the pool in 2009
"It is unusual to get this amount of days in a row when the weather is so good.
"When the sun comes out, so do the people, which is great news for the pool as the good days make up for the days when the weather is not so good.
"The pool has been so busy we have had to use our busy day policy every day this week and from about 10am there have been queues of people waiting outside to come in.
"It's all been very good humoured and people have been more than happy to wait for a bit so they can get in and have a swim.
"We estimate that between 2,500 and 3,000 people came in between Saturday and Thursday lunchtime, but expect a lot more over the weekend.
"It really has been a record breaking week and the tuck shop has done a roaring trade.
"We are really hoping this fantastic weather continues."
Earlier this year the pool was forced to reduce its opening hours because of bad weather.
But it is now operating as normal, opening from 8.30am to 7pm, seven days a week.
The pool has gone from strength to strength after being taken over by the Portishead Open Air Pool Community Trust in 2009.
Visitor figures have soared from just 8,000 a year when the lido was under control of North Somerset Council.
The pool, which celebrates its 50th birthday this year, opened for the summer season in April.
A number of improvements have been carried out this year including new paving and work to the changing rooms and children's pool.
The pool is always looking for volunteers and anyone who wants to get involved should call 01275 843 454
