The Minister for Tourism and local MP John Penrose officially opened a brand new boating lake at one of the region's most popular family adventure parks.

Opened at Puxton Park, near Weston-super-Mare, the opening of the new boating lake commemorated the park's fourth birthday and is one of a range of new facilities included in an ambitious £150,000 investment programme.

Other new attractions that were unveiled included a new zip wire, pedal kart track and new animals which included reindeers and wallabies.

Alistair Mead, managing director at Puxton Park said: "The opening of the boating lake is one highlight for the park this year and we were delighted that John Penrose agreed to come down to cut the ribbon for us.

"We've got big ambitions here at Puxton Park and the opening of all these new attractions highlights our commitment to invest and to make the park one of the premier day trip destinations in the West."

The latest attraction to open at the park this year, the boating lake comes hot on the heels of a new maze and JCB digger area. Holding up to 10 boats, families of four will be able to splash about and have fun while enjoying the wildlife which surrounds the park.

Alistair added: "Families soon took to the water and were having a fantastic time in the boats and we're now getting ready for a busy time during the summer holidays. All the new animals have settled in well and are already proving popular with all those who visit."

Set in the beautiful Somerset countryside the 50-acre family adventure park is one of the largest visitor attractions in the south west.

With a giant three-storey indoor play barn, pony rides, dairy, tractor rides, falconry displays, hill fort and 'bouncing bull' inflatable bouncy pillow it's already a favourite with many families.
