BABIES and toddlers could soon be having a splashing time if plans to open a new indoor pool in an empty warehouse in Portishead get the green light.
Businessman Glyn Davies, who runs Aquasplash, has put forward plans to transform an empty warehouse at Old Mill Road into a pool and cafe.
The heated pool would open seven days a week from 9am to 8pm and the cafe from 9.30am-5pm and available to children aged from two months to three years.
There would also be a spectator area, reception, showers and changing facilities and the pool would provide swimming lessons and a chance for young children to build their confidence in the water.
Fourteen parking spaces would be provided and the new pool facility, if approved, would create four new part time jobs.
The pool would be let out to fully insured and qualified swimming companies which would teach the babies and infants aged six weeks to two years to swim.
Portishead already has an indoor pool at Parish Wharf plus the open air pool, which also has a small children's splash pool.
The application follows a recent trend of leisure facilities opening up in the former industrial buildings of Old Mill Road.
A gym and indoor skate park were both successful in obtaining planning permission to change the use of unit two for their respective leisure uses.
The Fitness Hub gym has already secured permission to convert the former Uniross warehouse into a gym and plans to convert another unit into an indoor skate park are also progressing, with the facility due to open at Easter
