PORTISHEAD Rotary Club took another bold step in benefiting the community with its new Memory Café, which opened on September 6, in Slade Road.
The fortnightly event provides a meeting place for dementia sufferers and their carers to remember the past and reminisce over old times.
Visitors, together with a sprinkling of Rotarians, began by looking over advertising material from the 1930s, a ration book, a Coronation glass and old money, which led to a school desk game of coin football.
With free refreshments a-plenty, the afternoon rounded of with table skittles and a sing-song led by Phillip Baldwin.
Rotary vice-president Jim Christopherson stressed how beneficial it is for the person with dementia or the carer to collect together reminders of their shared memories in a 'memory box'.
The café is open next on Tuesday, September 27, from 2pm-4pm in the Jubilee Day Care Hall, 31, Slade Road. For further details call 01275 399878.
